Dragon is intended to replace the space shuttle for heavy lifting purposes. The spacecraft, under development by the company SpaceX, is designed to carry seven people or a mixture of personnel and cargo, to and from low Earth orbit using Falcon 9 rockets.

A Falcon 9 rocket is already assembled in Cape Canaveral, Fla. for a debut in the first half of 2010. A following flight, sometime between May and November, would launch the cargo-carrying Dragon spacecraft to resupply the International Space Station.
